The function of communication (developed in Dialogue 3) is to connect with and bring up the desired meanings in a receiver of the communication. But accurate communication also requires the communicator to estimate the level of conceptual complexity of which the receiver is capable of processing. Conceptual complexity is a dimension of a system's C/consciousness capacity. It is an essential dimension required to define the Holistic dimensions of reality being communicated with and received. The communicator must respect the limits of his/her audience to process the complexity of the information to be communicated. This becomes a serious challenge when the body of information to be communicated is inherently complex, abstract, and/or esoteric. That is the challenge we share in this third ego overlay on C/consciousness, the central topic of HIP.
This section of OT/MP is likely the most conceptually challenging section for Pilgrims not already familiar with systems thinking. But the rewards are great for persevering. Do as experienced students do when confronted by an obscure concept or sequence. If a reasonable effort to understand the information does not immediately produce satisfactory understanding, then just skip over that part and move on to the next element. The curse of Holistic/systems thinking definitely applies to the material in this section of the MP. After further progress is made, return to the troubling sections later.
This story reveals how dynamic changes in language can quickly occur over time. It suggests we are vulnerable to the level of conceptual complexity (a consciousness factor.) HIP (Human Information Processing competence) tends to be created, affected, and limited by the nature and dynamics of language in the context of experience.
Main Ideas
the words and meanings of a language within a group are in constant flux to remain in parallel with environmental changes
the presence of a stranger creates uncertainty (fear) in any system regardless of its complexity: e.g., in any individual, coalition, group, organization, or regional, national or international social system. Metaphysically, the "stranger" represents any unexpected challenge to intellectual consciousness. The challenge can be an event, condition, or perceived uncertainty that results from contact with any novel, different, confused, or out- of-the-ordinary concept, condition, or experience not already registered in the paradigm of the person (system) experiencing the "stranger." The level of any such challenge is amplified in the presence of stress. Typically, if the threat is not severe or immanent, good faith efforts are first made to resolve that fear.
the less evolved the C/consciousness (low HIP competence) of any living system, the more vulnerable it is to experiencing fear generated stress from a "stranger" condition.
the priorities of each speaker in the dialogues with the stranger are created and limited by the nature of his/her experience. These dictate the structure and meaning of language imposed on the stranger's communication that may be dramatically different for his listeners.
healthy communication among diverse elements of a society require constant intentional refreshing of linking terms and concepts. This is not now a national priority for US society. As they say, it is not even on the radar screen.
language stability and reliability across cultures requires access to shared common and consistent language frames called referent systems
the possibility of the sexual projection of a stranger's alien genes into the social system's genetic pool constitutes a primal ego threat to the most dominant (alpha) males in a low consciousness (low HIP) human system regardless of its social complexity
the presence of a viable Spiritual Consciousness(associated with High HIP) is required to offset and counter any inadvertent language referents whose denotative or connotative meaning (as known to the communicator) is not already in the referent system of the listeners. The greater the discrepancy in the respective referent systems, the greater the reactive potential to release primal fears in the participants to the communication.
murder (destructive action) is a frequent solution used by low C/consciousness (low HIP) human systems to remove any "stranger," i.e., source of uncertainty (generative of fear) from their environment.,
Applications in "The World"
The
nature of HIP competence in
a social system defines and limits its capacity to resolve uncertainty
into meaningful ideas, concepts, and coping strategies.
Primitive
cultures present low
HIP competence
to high tech cultures. Low complexity human systems unconsciously
create
fear based policies, practices, and communication characteristics. Low
HIP is more frequently found in right wing religious and political
systems. These
become constraints that force them to remain within their narrow arena
of prescribed meanings and low conceptual complexity.
Aggressive
and violent action is a predictable tactic for them to remove any
source that is blamed for their distress.
Workers in the United States at the turn into the 20th century were grossly abused by corporate America. They were without livelihoods, meaningful self validation through honorable work, and without rights or means of appeal. So in the constant presence of such primal threats to their base agendas, with impoverished channels and means to communicate, and being further constrained by low HIP competence, they erupted into wide spread street violence in which many were killed by police and hired corporate enforcers. Nevertheless, their desperate but courageous actions ultimately created and legitimized the union movement. This achievement is now being undone by current right wing, low HIP, corporate and political agendas.
Al Qaeda, Hamas and other Islamic terrorist organizations are only the most recent evidence of this destructive low HIP byproduct of economic repression. Such repression legitimizes and release unchained resentment and rage against any symbol or scapegoat that can be found. The energy behind Islamic violence against the west in general, and the US in particular, is further amplified by the religious justifications in Islam's sacred Qur'An [Note] to which their mental consciousness is wholly subservient, obedient, and totally closed to alternative views of a Spiritually validate religious Ethics and morality. Such convenient justification wholly masks the unabashed naked power and control agendas that actually flourish in low consciousness, low HIP types, and which drives those commented to terrorist violence. Such impoverished low HIP mental consciousness cannot be reasoned with in good faith.
Implications
for Subsequent Material
HIP competence in relation to
Spiritual Conscience will
figure significantly in understanding the use and dynamics of power and
control agendas for individuals, groups, organizations and
societies.
You will learn that low order HIP leads to faster, greater, and more
ruthless
use of force and intimidation to manage any stress producing
uncertainty
so as to keep it under the dominant system's control.
The enhancement of Spiritual Consciousness within any low C/consciousness person, group, organization, or society is the necessary major prerequisite and antidote for them to cope with any threat they perceive arising from the content of their lives, regardless of its level of complexity or the presence or absence of Real (legitimate) threat.

Dialogue of the
Master and Student
on Freedom
![]()
This story (with its sub allegory "The Blot that Thought," addresses the age old debate as to whether or not our lives are pre-determined (determinism) or whether or not we have free will. [side discussion]
Main Ideas:
the question of whether or not we are subject to determinism or have free will cannot be answered in the absolute. OT/MP's answer to both is "Yes."
we do have free will, but only the sub arena where free will is required to exist within the larger Reality defined by absolute Spiritual Principle (TRUTH.) How "free" are you, in practical terms, to quit your job, or quit the education you need to compete effectively in the work place? How free are you to own your car by paying cash or by means of a loan (not lease it.) Or how freely can you compete only on your competence and loyalty for advancement within a corporate, institutional, or government system where cronyism, nepotism, sexual favors, religious bias, fraternal relations, or any incestuous loyalty network actually determines your treatment and likelihood of advancement. Yet no organization will admit to being guilty of such behavior.
A chief of police of a large eastern city, where racist conflict was rampant in the police force was asked whether he was aware that racism was prevalent in his department. He replied, with deadpan genuine sincerity, "Absolutely not. We have no racism problem because we have regulations that prohibit it."
we are free to choose, but only within limited dimensions within which we, or any system of interest, has been "built" to function (Ref "The Blot that Thought.") We are constrained (i.e. locked in) to "the world" by the nature of THE LAW OR TRUTH. The potential of a system's capacity to move within its constraints is called its "Degrees of Freedom (DF)."
systems with limited capacity to exercise needed DF (i.e., when unable to function beyond their permitted range of operation) are impoverished of the ability to compete effectively within their embracing eco-system. If meeting their needs requires a greater range of operational options than their DF allows, they are doomed to behave pathologically or fail, e.g., a person who wants to become an architect because he/she talented in and loves art, but is without the mathematical skills or engineering interest also required for that role.
the student destroyed himself (an ultimate ego act of seizing control) because he was not able to transcend his limited concepts of reality. He did not recognize that he lived in a cosmos which is both deterministic and free, i.e., allowed freedom but within defined constraints
the teacher was limited because he was comfortable with his own world view (paradigm) of freedom and constraint. He was unable to detect the pathological level of distress his student was suffering in handling the contradictions of a seeming paradox. This condition often besets "bright" people when they attempt to interact with or influence others who have not or cannot fully grasp the same complex constructs (ideas) they are comfortable with. The intellectual genius is especially frustrated when confronted by having to cope with the invisible and subtle Principles behind a Spiritual Cosmos of Eternal Verities. Because this Reality cannot be processed by the rational intellect, no matter how great, the grand intellect of the genius only finds intellectually unresolvable paradoxes. OT/MP's message to such types is: "Get over it."
Applications in "The World"
The
sensate world may be described
as systems of systems of various levels [systems,
subsystems, Supra Systems] and
kinds. They relate
to each other and interact in defined ways in accordance with their
purpose
(teleological goals.) A human being (individual) is a system,
a family
is a system, a coalition or group is an informal system. an
organization
is a formal system, a nation is a system, each of increasing
complexity.
The individual then, can be defined as a subsystem within a family, the
family as a subsystem within a community, individual families as
adjacent
subsystems to their community Supra System, and the community as a
subsystem
within a society and so on.
All levels of system complexity are in constant interaction with each other, within levels and across levels. A human subsystem as an individual can have participating roles in multiple systems, e.g., family, corporation, community. All participate in a society, even if they choose to participate as dropouts. Their "empty" non presence empowers those who do take action to affect the society in some way that may be counter to the best interests of the dropouts. The greater the ability or potential of a given subsystem to function in a complex larger system, the more effective and healthy the system will be, and vice versa. [re Ashby's Law]
Low DF systems behave dysfunctionaly in a complex Supra System (e.g. the tribal warrior cultures of the middle east in confronting the economic incursions of western high tech capitalism.) Other examples include: individuals who behave in a reactive and emotional manner when confronted with uncertainty, like the 1970's TV character Archie Bunker (All in the Family.) When they cannot adapt they become reactive, emotional, frozen, and unable to function effectively in complex settings. Then they seek to either distance themselves or remove the perceived source of threat. When such systems are forced by circumstances beyond their control to change and cope with a social ecology of increasing complexity, they often become depressed or distraught and behave dysfunctionaly. Likewise, when an aging system looses it functionality due to physical and mental decline, it too experiences growing frustration due to its compromised ability to cope (loss of DF.)
Systems that are rich in the ability to process information behave more effectively in a complex, information rich Suprasystem most of the time. But the requirement for a complex system to interact with a system having excessive regularity (low complexity or ultra stable) can also produces stress for them. This stress is experienced as boredom or contempt created by the lack of opportunity to challenge the adjacent systems or the constraining suprasystem, e.g. a creative child trapped in an authoritarian classroom, a creative mind trapped to serve a menial function a bureaucracy. This boredom may then cause them to also behave dysfunctionaly, e.g. bureaucrats who seek to expand their budget (power) and control over others, or who create useless paperwork for others in order to apply his/her power so as to validate himself/herself, or feel his/her life is meaningful, or simply to experience the thrill of stirring around in data or holding power over others.
The efforts of human systems to cope with larger more complex systems, but which do not have adequate DF to function in that cause will behave with increasing pathology. This may be found to explain much of the social dysfunction now growing in individuals, families, organizations, and nations, who find themselves trapped, confused, and helpless in an exploitive and non responsive national and International data and information rich economic ecosystem. These local systems are increasingly dominated by international predatory corporations and governments who are loyal only to themselves and the complex commercial and economic networks they create, serve, and exploit. (The dynamics of this will be explored in detail the allegory of the SSPBPM.)
...
The "Blot" that Thought (Within the story of The Master and His Student)
This story teaches the basic idea of "Degrees of Freedom" (DF).
Main IdeasDF describes how easily you can detect or perceive what is relevant, then select or decide what to do about it, and then effect or act to take appropriate actions. DF is easier to understand if applied only to the three dimensions of our sense perceptions.
"Time" adds a fourth dimension that complicates our ability to define its relevance to ourselves under certain conditions, e.g., excessive investment in living in the illusory past or future. Then we are unable to function effectively in the "now." It is taking effective action in the "now" that determines the "now" of tomorrow. Failure to recognize and accept that "NOW" is all there is, or ever will be, leads to dysfunctional decisions that can compromise our happiness, effectiveness and that of others who depend on us. [See Tolle]
The "Blot" expands its DF, its ability to navigate in its larger energy ecosystem and was instinctively seeking to expand its conscious into the next dimension beyond time. This energy/information stage or level will later be defined as a Spiritual Dimension (i.e., the Etheric energy shell) within which we are all embedded as ONE.
Applications
in "The World"
Human systems suffer when
presented by uncertainty or
stress. They cannot expand their consciousness beyond their
immediate
emotional and intellectual context. They suffer in proportion as they
are
affected by forces beyond their DF to control. OT/MP is
attempting
to encourage you to first build an intellectual
paradigm within your current HIP and DF to function in the now, and
allow
that achievement to ultimately serve as a workable platform (alter) for
you to make the intuitive
meditative leap
to Spiritual
Consciousness. That Spiritual
leap is required for you to transcend your current intellectual limits.
Implications
for Subsequent Material
Social themes of different
levels of complexity will
be described and defined in the more technical levels of
OT/MP. It
is not necessary to have that sophistication or understanding to get
the
main points of OT/MP. The concepts of DF will play a major
role in
understanding those who suffer from an abnormally high need to invest
in
unachievable personal power and control agendas, and why they persist
even
in the face of being compromised and destroyed physically as well as
emotionally
and intellectually, not to mention Spiritually.

This allegory illustrates what happens to a mechanical device that tries to "play the game" with less than a "full deck of cards." Mechanical devices are easier to understand than a complex human being. But the principle to be illustrated is the same, the costs of information impoverishment. This story presents the abstract concept of Degrees of Freedom (DF) in a real world application. The behavior of Robie the Robot demonstrates the effects of the "Law of Requisite Variety" or "Ashby's Law" [Ashby] This law states that any person (system) that desires or needs to cope with its ecology (environment,) must have an information processing capability equal to or greater than the information complexity that defines the larger ecosystem (Suprasystem or system of systems) in which it is embedded, and with which it must effectively interact to survive and thrive.
Main Ideas: the following exposition will shed light on why intelligent people and their human systems sometimes do really dumb things, suffer lost opportunity, or make fatal errors.
every living system, including mechanical systems that are designed to emulate a living system, must have the same three basic functions to survive: these are "DSE," the ability to detect important information in its relevant environment, the ability to select the most appropriate possible response among sufficient achievable options to cope with the conditions in that environment, and the ability to effect interactive operations on its environment. These three function must be present at an achievable level in order to manage and control the factors that affect them, and thus to survive and thrive.
A system's DF is defined by the complexity of its coping capacity, e.g., includes the number of options and its memory. That is, its DSE process must equal or exceed the complexity in the system's larger Suprasystem (ecosystem) in which it is embedded. This sequence of interactions on which survival is dependent is used throughout OT/MP. It is referred to as the DSE, (detect, select, and effect) process. NOTEHIP competence is defined (and limited) by the sophistication of the system's "DSE" process relevant to an adjacent system, or to its embracing ecosystem (Suprasystem.) The DSE competence must include the capacity to interact with all relevant dimensions of its Reality, i.e., "relevant" being defined by that part of Reality with which the system must cope in order to survive.
The capacity of a system to respond to the complexity of its ecology (environment or Suprasystem) us called "Degrees of Freedom (DF.)" The greater the DF of a coping system, the greater the variety of responses it can manage, and the more effectively it will cope.
NOTE: This dynamic explains why the Indonesian Islamic cleric, Abu Bakar Bashir, the alleged leader of the Indonesian terrorist cult, Jemaah Iskmiah, with links to Al Qaeda, has said, [CNN Presents, "Seeds of Terror," 8:00 p.m. EDT, June 21, 2003]"There are only two acceptable outcomes for Islam, to win or to die."
This principle can reliably be applied to all proponents of militant Islam, or any militant "ism." The US, the UN, or any other group of negotiators even when motivated more by loving compassion than crass materialism, and who earnestly seek to achieve human healing and harmony, do not appear to fully understand this deadly principle. Therefore, having compromised DF, they appear not to recognize its implications when they confront it. Therefore, they are fatally vulnerable to agreeing to conditions that that make them and those they represent vulnerable to ultimately destructive and fatal consequences.
Applications in "The World:"
the HIP competence of any person or social system will be affected in the same way. A person must have sufficient HIP to effectively engage DSE interactions with its adjacent and larger social systems, e.g., earn an adequate living, vote for the Real best interest of society, consummate an effective relationship with a mate of highly developed HIP competence, achieving Spiritual growth, etc.
corporations must create DSE information processing systems to accurately track social trends affecting the current and future marketability of their products and services. But if they lack an adequate corporate wide Spiritual depth of HIP, they often fail to track the important social costs which may be certain byproducts of their activity on the environment and human cultures. Such advanced Consciousness is "not in their computer." They often do not recognize that the Real nature of their coping problems is a deficiency of corporate HIP. Further, the impact of ego preserving or enhancing power and control agendas (discussed in Dialogue 5, Power and Control) further corrupts the HIP capacity of their system.
an awakened Spiritual Consciousness is the empowering condition that is a prerequisite for the expansion of HIP competence in any individual.
from the levels of a group through a whole society or nation, an awakened and expanded Spiritual Consciousness among a critical mass of their members and population (concentrated in their leadership) is required to permit adequate intellectual coping with the social and cultural forces actually affecting their well being.
intentionally expanding one's Spiritual Consciousness is the only way to truly create a high HIP empowered DSE process with potentially high DF. Expansion of HIP only by intellectual means will lead to impoverished reality models of the larger Spiritual Reality. Here are found many of the roots of today's problems.
Implications for Subsequent Material:
related to the dynamics of power and control, OT/MP will show how the three traps of mind interact to either enhance or compromise your capacity to mange your power and the power of others. When power and control forces that affect you are embedded in a complex Suprasystem, your HIP competence sets your coping limits in responding to or managing that system or systems.
OT/MP will show how groups, organizations and other complex social systems are also subject to the same laws of HIP as is an individual. This is because any social system is only an extension of the influence of an individual, or groups of individuals (coalitions.) That system then reflects the characteristics owned by those most influential and dominant individuals and their integrated HIP characteristics. You may have heard the statement: "All of us is smarter than any one of us." The level of functional HIP competence will be a hybrid mirror of the C/consciousness of the most dominant participants in a group, organization or society. Where do you, where does our society stand today on the scale of HIP competence?
High HIP systems will produce group Wisdom.
Low HIP systems will produce group think.
![]()
This story shows how subtle and insidious low HIP patterns can be. They can define and limit our behavior without out our knowing it.
Main Ideas
persons who are raised with habits or in traditions are overcome by them, and they serve them without knowing it.
the fact that a traditional pattern of behavior may now be useless or even dysfunctional is seldom obvious to the owner. Therefore, it is not addressed. What is not held in consciousness cannot be processed by the intellect.
Applications in "The World"
This simple story is included
for you to become more
sensitive to your own behavior, to become aware why you do what you do,
especially when it can be shown to be counter your best
interests.
A person in therapy once opined, " I know I'm neurotic, and I hate
it.
But at least I understand it."
Implications
for Subsequent Material
The
principle introduced with this
story will be further developed in more subtle, sophisticated, and
important
contexts when we explore our relationship to the tools
and toys of mastery, power and control (Dialogue 5.)
![]()
This story illustrates the principle of the human tendency to follow the path of least resistance. When this is a fault that is embedded in complexity, individuals remain unaware of their vulnerability to this flaw. Then they cannot question the correctness of their decisions in terms of the actual problem, or its Real content, or their Real needs.
Main Ideas
the "lost keys" are symbolic of the problems we need to solve in order to survive and thrive in a particular situation
the "drunk" is symbolic of a person (or group, organization, or society) whose HIP is seriously compromised and dysfunctional in terms of the Real actions needed to cope with the Real situation in which he finds himself
the "light" is symbolic of any patterns of behavior, model, paradigm or workable process that has excelled under other conditions. This familiar condition makes it easier to believe you are able to resolve a problem or make progress, even when the tactic or strategy may not even be relevant to the problem or condition at hand. The light shines effectively, but is the wrong light in the wrong place.
the "parson" is symbolic of well meaning participants in any process who enter in good faith but without full understanding of what actually is going on. They do not take time, or cannot take time, to asses the full or correct definition and scope of the problem, compared to its presenting symptoms. These are often confused with the problem. Hence they enlist themselves to participate in acts of futility until the definitive question is finally recognized and posed. In this example, "Where actually where you standing?"
[Note: statisticians worry about methodologies that produce Type I errors (proving true that which is actually false) and Type II errors (proving false that which is actually true.) Some smilingly insist there is a Type III error, proving true that which is in fact true, but which has addressed the wrong question or issue!]
Applications in "The World:"
we use outdated or inappropriate protocols and models because they have served well us before. We are comfortable with them. Our inadequate HIP (permitted by an impoverished Spiritual Consciousness) denies us the ability to perceive their irrelevance or dysfunctional effects. The history of science has been contaminated by this vulnerability. [See Kuhn, Thomas]
the relevance of Spiritual factors in medicine and scientific research have been ignored for two centuries of scientific advance. This is because at the time the dualistic philosopher Descartes, "Spirituality" was claimed by the church, and did not appear to be relevant in the accepted "light" of the new scientific paradigms (logical positivism.) The lapse persisted through to the end of the last century. Both Spirituality and C/consciousness were thoughtlessly consigned by science to the scrap heap of superstition. Enlightenment produced the beginning of change in accepting the scientific legitimacy of C/consciousness and Spirituality in only the last decade of the 20th century. In the new light of emergent Holistic Paradigms, and the systems thinking they empower:
The
solution to that destruction
cannot lie in any modification of
that
now unsurvivable capitalist
paradigm.
Survival
depends on complete repudiation of predatory
capitalism.
ands all of its functional outworking
in society.
Survival depends upon our speedy
acceptance of Spiritually grounded
economic
and political paradigms based on Loving service to the common well being
Implications
for Subsequent Material
Notice
how human behavior, especially
when immersed in large scale organizations, including business,
education,
and government, is bound up by the old paradigms, and is unable to
break
out of its internally created bureaucratic binds. These
constraints
are defined by the "light" of common reason and convenience of accepted
local wisdom, whether in line with Reality or not.
But, life is R.A.W! Reality always wins! Truth will out. But in time?

The
Wright Brothers' Secret Visitors

This story is an example of how uncertainty can present itself in an unexpected and novel experience. The story suggests an experience that can have valid possibilities (i.e., valid in TRUTH and REALITY) for alternative futures. But whether they are accepted or rejected depends whether the decision makers are of high Human Information Processing (HIP) competence (abstract) or low, insufficient, or inadequate HIP competence (concrete.)
The
capacity for empowered (abstract)
analysis and decision making first depends upon an awakened and
empowered Spiritual
Consciousness. Recall [from
Dialogue 1: Consciousness] that intellectual
consciousness must first must be empowered by Spiritual
Consciousness.
Recall also that what is not held in consciousness,
cannot be processed by the intellect, no matter how brilliant the
intellect.
The scene at what is now Dulles International airport near our nation's capitol, creates an experience of uncertainty for most of the guests. Uncertainty is first experienced as stress. The greater the threat associated with uncertainty, the experience of stress will give way to fear and then to panic. Concrete HIP competence is more vulnerable to negative reactions to uncertainty (fear-denial) than abstract HIP competence (open and tentative.)
Main
Ideas:
no complex idea or concept for an alternative future can be presented fully so as to be experienced by a naive observer and and considered in its ultimate Holistic or completed state, [re Curse of Holistic Thinking] i.e., no actual demonstration is possible. The concept must be recognized and assembled by the intellect from the pieces detected by the material senses. The missing Whole can only be provided via Spiritual Consciousness (expressing as abstract HIP) by means of its access to the higher matter-energy information realms of Spirit. But the intellect is limited by the state of the observer's intellectual consciousness, (i.e., relatively concrete HIP).
per the information in Dialogue 3 (Communication,) there is no referent experience [definition] that is sufficiently adequate or complete in the minds of any observer in that field that will permit the language of the Wright brothers to accurately express the true and complete implications how the display in that field can affect the future of air travel. They are limited to the quality and depth of their consciousness that they bring to the scene they confront.
the "luminescent visitors" are symbolic of Spiritual influences that provide the direct guidance for the Wright Brothers from the Spiritual plains of Reality. These influences introduce and correctly interpret novel possibilities beyond the material limits of their conscious minds. But the minds in the audience of the Wright brothers are not as empowered by that Spiritual guidance. Therefore, because "words have no absolute meaning" [from Dialogue 3: Communication] that audience cannot usefully interpret their words from a Reality frame of reference. They are limited to assessing the scene from the limited material reality created by their five material senses.
the insight evident from the Wright brothers' behavior represents the power of Spiritual insight within them which does inform their intelligence fully and completely to the limit of that Consciousness. Their C/consciousness is informed in such a way as to create a predictable and achievable working consciousness that links their status quo with a desirable alternative future.
but the "dignitaries" from Washington must interpret only the bits and pieces of the unassembled whole as are being described by the Wright brothers (within the serious limits of language), and without their own link to the Spiritual whole that had informed the Wright brothers. The dignitaries must be able to connect the pieces they find in their limited reality, (the field of novel objects.) They must apply their sensate minds to create the possibility of what does not actually exist for them in their material intellectual consciousness i.e., the ultimate referent experience of the completed airplane being proposed by the Wright brothers with all of its social, economic, and political implications.
the less HIP competence (more concrete) of an individual observer, the more likely they will either quickly agree for some irrelevant political reason, or more likely, dismiss the possibility being proposed if they experience any source of threat in the situation's uncertainty. Or, someone may intellectually grasp the potential, but fail to interpret the full scope of implications, including negative ones. They might embrace the concept, but for the wrong reasons. In their limited experience with their limited experience of material reality, there is no meaningful link to such an abstract hypothetical future.
defensive tactics that can be employed to dismiss the uncertainty and justify rejection include the following: denial, debasing humor, false logic, and/or outright ridicule. Any limited consciousness will invent "logical" reasons for the impossibility of the concept based on precedent and the status quo. They can respond by forming a defensive coalition of like minds and invoke the absence of a precedent, or, argue that the idea is "tremendous," but "the time is not right," and/or they can react from imagined worst case implications in order to maintain their own perceived credibility and power position.
Applications in "The World:"
individuals can be described and predicted based on an assessment of their HIP competence (concrete - abstract) and their potential to evaluate uncertainty can be estimated. We can estimate the likely outcome of the dignitary's decisions for they will then enter into coalitions of "like minds" to validate and strengthen their position. In this story, only one or two of those dignitaries invited by the Wright brothers will likely have both sufficient intuitive gifts and knowledge to be responsive to the possibilities proposed. The ultimate disposition of the proposal will depend upon the collective HIP consciousness of the controlling power brokers in the group.
Note: The U.S. government was not interested in the possibilities of any kind of flying machine until the German military invested in them around the time of W.W.I.the reaction of groups and coalitions can be estimated by the collective HIP present in the group. This HIP status is created by the most dominant and influential individual(s), and the political frame of reference they use to protect or advance their power agenda [see Dialogue 5: Power and Control.] Coalitions of minimal HIP competence will always be found at the right wing end of any political spectrum. Very rarely, there will be smaller left wing coalitions of concrete HIP processors.
the diffusion of innovations in any complex human system depends upon leaders with sufficient Spiritual enlightenment and intellectual insight who also possess sufficient credibility, along with social and political power to move the innovation through the defensive actions of fearful opponents. This essential quality was embodied in those Spiritually endowed founding fathers who created the United States of America. [See the evidence of the Spiritual symbolism installed by these founders.] Today, a critical Spiritual quality is lacking in a critical mass of our nation's leaders today (in both the right and left wings,) not all politicians, who are responsible for the problematic social values and norms, policies, and way of life that threaten the future stability of the United States today.
Implications for Subsequent Material:
The
MP will show why the potential
of an individual to lead from a Spiritually
informed intellect requires that they first:
be devoid of rank ambitions for power and control (for its own sake) over individuals, coalitions, groups, organizations, and social and political systems,
be secure in their current power position and standing such that their ego needs are not easily threatened,
have adequate HIP competence (abstract) to be able to tolerate and fully explore the arenas of stress inducing complexity and uncertainty they are confronted with,
be nourished from birth in an ecology of all embracing Love and loving non authoritarian discipline from their parents, teachers, and peers. This pattern of influence nurtures trust and self-confidence within the individual and created abstract HIP,. Abstract HIP then empowers their material ego and its slave the intellect, to resist challenges to its security and affirmation needs. This story presents a demonstration of the validity and importance of "Know Thy Self," the ancient Wisdom chiseled on the Temple of the Oracle at Delphi (Ancient Greece,) and the Christian promise that, "The Truth shall set you free," provided of course, that you are open to the information that reveals that Truth. This story gives a blunt example of the costs that can occur when an inadequate HIP (Human Information Processing System) is combined with an overly self confident ego. Then its owner will fail to understand the implications of the Reality Data that is actually pointing to those conditions which determine his/her well being and effectiveness.
This story illustrates a human system with a problematic DSE (Detect, Select, and Effect process) capacity for interacting with the information in the material world. The Man from Tech's DSE is compromised such that it fails to detect all operable conditions (Reality) that affects his well being, and is limited to remain vulnerable to the material reality that guided his decisions. Because of this limited DF, not all of the factors affecting this man from Tech can can be recognized and acknowledged for what they Really are. Without this knowledge, no effective evasive actions are possible. This helplessness occurs because what is not first Detected, or held in Spiritual Consciousness cannot be processed by the material intellect (Selecting or Deciding system.) Then the Effecting (Operating) systems cannot function to save his life.
Main
Ideas:
in the sensate world, the Man from Tech has been imperfectly endowed to fully detect all of the relevant physical forces and information possibilities that can actually affect his intellect's and body's capacity to function.
the uneasiness experienced by the Man From Tech is the experience of Spiritual forces (beyond the material senses) that attempt to inform his intellect of immanent danger.
individuals are far less endowed to detect and react to the more subtle influences of Spiritual energy (in the SuperConsciousness) than they are from the direct physical forces imposed through the five material senses. It is a competence that must be consciously developed.
Individuals can be dealt a short deck of C/consciousness in any of the three functional areas that define a living system, their Detector, as in this example, their Selector (Decider,) also a secondary problem in this example because the Man from Tech could not process any alternative explanation that might have saved his life, or control over his Effector (operating system) if his legs had been paralyzed and made him unable to function to let him escape even after he recognized the danger.
Applications in "The World"
groups, organizations, and nations are also subject to the same Spiritual Principles that operate at their more complex levels. In this new 21st Century, the behavior of Iraq's Saddam Hussein, Al Quaida's Osama bin Laden, and North Korea's despot, Kim Chong-il, reveal their low HIP and total Spiritual impoverishment. During their despotic reigns, they believe they can impose their dreams of conquest upon a more complex and superior world by intimidating any international society with weapons of mass destruction (WMD.) Any enlightened consciousness can quickly detect the limits of such a base and empty consciousness that functions entirely from their inner worlds of threat and fear. Such Spiritually impoverished worlds are absent of access to any Real coping alternative.
any person (or any human system) with low (concrete) HIP competence is vulnerable to being seriously manipulated and controlled by a malicious person or system, e.g., an aggressive and dishonest political or religious movement seeking power and control as their foundation agenda..
what you don't know can kill you. As in the metaphor of the person attempting to fly an airplane in clouds and weather only with reference to their gyroscopic instrument panel (in Dialogue 6) if they have not been fully trained to use this complex resources, innocence and good will do not impose immunity from the blunt effects and impact when their incompetence is arrayed against TRUTH. Life is RAW! REALITY Always Wins!
Implications for Subsequent Material
As
with an individual, any social
system must
likewise be designed to respect Ashby's Law (The Law
of Requisite Variety.) To cope effectively, any human system
must have a viable DSE process in order to
fully and objectively detect all conditions in their
ecosystem
that are of possible relevance to their existence and well
being.
Insufficiency in any DSE function will
compromise
the system's safety, effectiveness, and success. This applies whether
the
system is a person, group, organization, society, or international
system
of nations. Consider the status of the United States as it
is today (or
your nation), when it is run by a political group with brilliant intellects but
low Spiritual
Consciousness. Low Spiritual
Consciousness is responsible for creating low intellectual HIP.
How effective are they likely to be with respect to
detecting and coping with all
the
relevant information in the world, especially when in addition, they
show significant evidence of demanding ego needs
for acquiring and holding absolute power and
control? Just examine the record since 2000.

This is a paraphrase of an article by Chaim Shatan on PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) in Psychiatric Quarterly. It describes the systematic repression and destruction of the potential for a soldier's awakened Spiritual Consciousness.
Main Ideas:
the "combat personality" is rooted in the primal agendas of survival, normal only to the bestial instincts, but not normal to an elevated socialized humanity beyond the first layer of civilized veneer.
the combat personality must be developed by systematic exposure to the violent repression of all healthy psychological orientations except the survival-at-any-cost mentality
the combat personality is the antithesis of the Spiritual Personality as is hate from Love, fear from trust, anger from tranquility and uncertainty from certainty.
the process of regression of a soldier's consciousness into a combat personality does not require any cooperative responses from the target person except submission
once developed, the combat personality becomes anchored by the violence of combat (or any place of violence, including the home) where it permanently dominates the D-S-E processes of the victim, unless and until it is addressed by extensive therapeutic counter interventions. Apart from combat personalities, the same effect is observed in some concentration camp prisoners who bond with their tormentors and fully become like them to survive.
aggression is the primary reactive solution to the primal fear generated by the stress and uncertainty of actual combat. It then generalizes to include any and all potential unknowns or uncertainty about anything detected in the context of felt helplessness.
Applications in "The World"
the experiences of chronically angry persons will likely be found to contain a systematic pattern of childhood physical and psychological abuse equivalent to combat training
an assessment of persons drawn to any anti-social movement can be found to share in common some form of PTSD personality.
Implications for Subsequent Material
The healing of social discord
requires the intensive
application of Spiritual
antidotes
to heal lifestyles derived from PTSD related experiences. Those victims
of PTSD who are also most likely to covet power and control tend to
unite
and direct themselves so as to become synonymous with anti-social
behavior
patterns [Adorno,
et al.] We find them huddled
together in fear as "survivalist"
paramilitary groups, little armies that play war games in the American
landscape. Sleeper cells of potential domestic terrorists who
are
full of malevolence now exist in our country waiting for only they hint
of a cause to discharge massive acts of vengeance stored from having
received
a lifetime of abuse and hate. Collections of these misfits
can be
widespread and undetected in our culture until they suddenly are
motivated
to act out violence and anti-social behaviors.
The need for our schools and churches to reliably detect and address Spiritual impoverishment created by childhood abuse is essential in order to address the injuries, promote tolerance for uncertainty and stress, and to nurture interpersonal trust in these individuals. Such goals cannot be met without the existence of adequate Spiritually (not religious) grounded social organizations, and Spiritually (not religious) oriented groups within our society. These will be designed to promote healthy interpersonal skills and problem solving orientations. Such strategies will be found concentrated in the OT/MP Dialogue 7, on Love.

The story illustrates how PTSD is created in children.
Main Ideas:
the dynamics of the ambush as experienced by a child during abuse creates the same effect on a child as for soldiers during combat, but its effect is instantaneous and permanent.
abuse on a child is even more vicious and permanent because the child has no prior frame of reference in the world to at least know, like an adult who knows that the abuse is exceptional and for definable reasons (e.g., war,) compared to a child where emotionally warped adults are the cause. In combat PTSD, the soldier presumably knows that the abusive conditions of training and combat are (allegedly) to achieve a higher social good (victory in battle for the good guys.) Nevertheless, the soldier is often victim to PTSD disorders when returning to "the world" subsequent to training and combat.
Applications in "The World"
soldiers and criminals are sometimes drawn to potentially violent activities in order to discharge their unresolved rage and aggression from childhood induced PTSD.
once trained, truly loving persons who offer to be foster parents or to adopt children (for Love more than profit) who have been victim to PTSD inducing experiences themselves, can often interpret the child's distrust, withdrawal and reactive anger as originating from some source of unresolved PTSD.
Implications for Subsequent Material
The antidote for childhood PTSD,
as will be shown in
the applications section of OT/MP, require an intensive induction into
a Spiritual Consciousness
and its resulting
lifestyle through ample, patient and persistent applications of
unconditional
Love and tolerance, but within a well defined and reasonable frame of
enforced
and predictable discipline. These conditions are not easily
arranged
by the compartmentalized techniques that are the norm today, but require
a Spiritually grounded systems approaches to be introduced in
following
sections.
This concludes the part of OT/MP that presents the three ego overlays on C/consciousness: agendas. communication, and HIP. OT/MP now moves to present the dynamics of how these ego overlays play out when they are not moderated by an advanced Spiritual Consciousness.
Without such a moderating Spiritual influence, the ego's defense mechanisms conspire to create "control freaks," and those who move to become power brokers, and its metastasized form, the power monger, with all the evils that follow. These have now begun to pervert and consume, corrupt, and destroy the higher promises of the American legacy.
