InQuiring Mind (Q): So, here I am. I was sent here. I guess I should thank you for being willing to speak with me, but frankly, I don't know why I was sent, some acquaintances--friends, you know how it is sometimes

Q: So, why did they send me? I guess they think I need to understand something that you apparently know about. Its all very mysterious. But anyhow, I've just completed my education and my life is ahead of me, so I have nothing to lose right now but some time.

Q: But who are you? and why was I sent to you? And what's your business? Its surely not clear how you can help me, and frankly, I'm not aware of needing "help." I am told, and I believe, that I have a promising future. So, what's your bag, your gig-- your qualifications?

P: My qualifications will become evident as we go along. Besides, your questions illustrate one of the problems of an inadequate consciousness which, by the way, is why you were sent. Your brilliant mind already gives evidence that it may be limited in its ability to accept my information. You appear to require that I first have some external legitimizing credibility before you can trust what I say.

P: Let me suggest the following for a starter: Humanity has become a problem whose natural byproducts are already consuming the quality of your life. [ Ehrlich, 1974, Meadows, et al, 1972, Club of Rome, Kaplin, 1996] As I focus on a sampling of these negative conditions for you right now, to which this Introductory Dialogue is entirely devoted, you may find it difficult to keep in mind our ultimate goals and outcome for these dialogues.

P: Our ultimate goal is to awaken and release into you, the transforming and transcending power of a higher expression of Consciousness, one that empowers you to serve through a working expression of Love.

Q: Oh! Come on! Get off! Now that's just what I need, huggy kissey! I can't believe I came for this.

P: But the Love I speak of does not mean the romanticism of an idealist. I does not refer to the erotic dreams of a sensual lover. Rather, I mean to nourish your capacity to develop a special kind of Love, one rooted in Spiritual Consciousness. You will discover that this Love is part of a unique frame of reference designed to to help you cope with the incessant craving of your ego intellect of which you are now largely unaware.

Q: My ego? And wait a minute! You said "spiritual?" If this is a religious thing then I'm out'a here.

P: The Mystical Paradigm (MP) I am going to share with you is not about religion. I will share more about that later. Success in this endeavor assures that you and other Pilgrims who accept the challenge will acquire a special kind of empowering Consciousness. This empowerment creates the means to collaborate with other of equal C/consciousness in faith, Love, and trust. With this type of Consciousness you and other collaborators can transform the world.

Q: Why should I want to "transform the world?" I just want to make my pile and retire.

P: But your ego is that intellectual consciousness which seduces you to only serve its base material wants and desires. These material wants and desires own you. They have already made your their slave. You have been seduced by your ego owned intellectual consciousness to devote your life to "making my pile" as you say. These subtle working of your ego owned intellect now lie entirely outside of your consciousness. Because your are unaware of them, you can't even recognize their destructive influences, let alone eliminate them.

P: But you are typical of the general public in that you have only a dictionary definition of consciousness. I intend to significantly deepen your understanding of that term for you to more accurately evaluate its influences over your desires and wants.

P: To make your pile. But these also include, at the most subtle and innocuous level, the desire simply to master intellectual ideas, to excel in athletics, or in the arts and culture. But at the most serious and dangerous levels I refer to are your ego's desires for dominance, power, and control over others, for money, for success, for glory and admiration, and to gather and control an adoring following of others. For you personally, and for our society and humanity to survive these next decades, these primal cravings must be replaced at every level with a higher Consciousness,

P: The capacity to unconditionally bring Loving actions and healing conditions into your sense of self worth, to your relationships, your work, and to our world as a way of life.

Q: I think I resent that that. That's an accusation. I am not aware of having "primal" cravings, not even during a Saturday night on the town.

P: Reactive anger, resistance, and defensive behavior is the first announcement of an ego's controlling presence. That you are not aware of your cravings is my important point. They don't normally announce themselves as "cravings." The greater your seduction by your ego, the more resistant you will be to any information that challenges your ego's control over you. But first, I must help you recognize the Real nature and Presence of a Superordinate Reality. That is the Reality beyond your mind and senses. You cannot access this larger Reality through your ego owned intellect.

Q: Larger Reality? What? What!? I'm a sunmnma cum laude graduate. I had to control my ego to achieve that recognition.

P: Bear with me, this is going to be like explaining water to a fish who has no concept of what sustains it, not even a label. This Reality I speak of is an enemy of your ego. You must develop the skills and discipline in a practice that creates and functions in a meditative condition called, The Silence. This is a condition not accessible by means of the intellect. It is a condition of no thought, no feel. It is a condition of total intellectual and emotional emptiness. As the Buddhist masters like to say, a cup must first be empty before it can be filled.

P: We must first lay a conceptual foundation for you, one that will at least partially satisfy your voracious intellect. We must empty your cup of the poisons released by your ego owned intellect. You experience this poison by assigning importance to irrelevant things and conditions. Only after you are rid of such poisonous influences can you get some respect for the Real dangers that confront you and our society. I will deal with the art and practice that is required for you to experience the Silence later in our dialogues.

Q: But what are we to be about? Lets get with the program then. My friends mentioned that you have allegories and parables, and they said something about dialogues.

P: We have just begun the dialogues. But before proceeding with the allegories, parables and metaphor, or our first major dialogue on the nature and dynamics of C/consciousness, I must first get your undivided attention. I offer to present to you now, as a part of this introduction, a summary of America's and humanity's perilous conditions by which our literal survival is threatened.

P: Worse than that. You will come to understand how our thoughts create our reality, a Spiritual Principle that has its origin in the nature of the Cosmos. This nature has been revealed to humanity by the descended Builders from the most ancient times. For many, perhaps you at first, a root or foundation Spiritual Cosmos is a "stupid" if not scary idea indeed, but one which is already being recognized and documented in modern science. [e.g., Jahn & Dunne, 1987; White, 1990; Chopra, 1989, 1990; Dossey, 2001] If you have the required character and determination, which we will soon find out, then you may have been sent to earth to serve as a Builder.

Q: Well, I have avoided the sweat labor of working as a builder in any type of construction to create my present success. I'm not likely to sink to such menial tasks now.

P: You used the word "sink" which is another indicator of your Spiritual impoverishment. You set yourself above those whose special skills and determination have provided you your shelter and technology. But the "Builders" I speak of do not have to do with the "building trades" or any of your worldly experiences, plans or goals. I will define the Builders I have in mind later.

Main Ideas of the MP

P: Now let me introduce you to the main ideas and concepts that we will be exploring over the course of our seven Dialogues.

Spiritual Consciousness Model with three ego overlays

Look at this figure [above]. This figure captures the central ideas of the Mystical Paradigm (MP) in one diagram. At the center is our Spiritual Truth. Then when the Soul constructs its body in the material world, there are three ego owned and operated overlays that are anchored in that material world. The first is our biological body with its five physical senses. From this is derived our material agendas. that serve our basic needs as explained in the Maslow hierarchy. [Dialogue 2: Agendas] Second, is the communication ego overlay on our Spiritual Consciousness. This is our capacity for language and symbolic communication that is built upon those needs and values as anchored in our agendas [Dialogue 3, Communication]. Third, our Human Information Processing (HIP) [Dialogue 4: HIP] competence (concrete to abstract. ) HIP is the means by which we are empowered to process the complexity and subtlety of our material experiences.

These three overlays on our Spiritual core act to create our ego owned and operated intellect. The interaction among these overlays comprise the means by which we establish rules for penetrating and processing information complexity and transform sense data into useful information and communication potential. Then these three ego overlays interact on the foundation of our Spiritual Consciousness to determine our capacity to handle the dynamics of power and control. When not controlled by our Spiritual Truth, this dynamic will act to create the power and greed mongers in their pathological expression. [Dialogue 5: Power and Control]

You will learn in our sixth dialogue, on Karma and Reincarnation [Dialogue 6: K&R], how this potential for either a healthy or pathological expression of your Spiritual Truth is derived from your Karmic legacy at the time of your reincarnation and the earthly context in which you are placed. K&R are the perfect mechanisms for a Spiritual Ethics that directs a absolutely certain, perfectly patient, and perfect Cosmic Justice. Then our final dialogue, [Dialogue 7: The Healing Power of Love] concludes our seven major dialogues.

But as you undertake your journey, this natural reawakening is vulnerable to being compromised by the normal vicissitudes of life, even if there is not overt child abuse. I know that you cannot even grasp the possibility of this right now, but that is why you must devote yourself to the disciplined unfolding of the MP, step by step and concept by concept. Remember the "Curse of Holistic/Systems thinking? Those who are not yet Spiritually worthy will not be able to find the discipline or motivation to accomplish this. This is how the Spiritual realms are protected against material corruption from those not yet fit to receive and apply these Sacred Truths. You will study a classic story of one person's incredible struggle to master his ego needs in order to gain the Sacred Truths. [In, The Allegory of the Buddhist Monk, Milarepa]

Q: Karma and Reincarnation are off the wall! But I'll restrain my objections about that for now, especially that reference to Karma or whatever it is. But I still don't relate to the idea that I'm on some kind of Spiritual journey. So I came here. So what? I don't consider that a "journey." What journey?

P: As in the journey of Odysseus. A Spiritual journey is a sacred requirement that is placed upon each incarnate Soul. The requirement that "it," the Soul, of itself, as a living being, by itself, through courage, discipline, emotional neutrality, willingness to work and risk, acceptance of data (evident facts), open to reason, and empowered only by the motives of Love, Trust, and Compassion, will rediscover and reenter the Enchanted Path. [Nalimov, 1982] By such virtues and attributes each Pilgrim can transcend their Personality to rediscover their Real Source , their Individualized Soul. I know you are not yet relating to any of this in a meaningful way, but you will as you become ready. [See also J. R. R. Tolkien's, trilogy, The Lord of the Rings; this link is to a non Spiritual interpretation, but you can have fun applying the MP to recast the interpretation as you learn more about the Principles of the MP]

P: I also note that your "menial" reference to the craftsmanship of the working class is also testimony to your Spiritual lack and your unwarranted intellectual arrogance. But you will come to understand that defect, just one of the goals our dialogues will address. Apart from your flaws of naiveté and arrogance that you have already demonstrated, but which can be corrected, there are other more important and valid reasons why you were sent and why I have accepted you.

P: You have demonstrated intellectual honesty. The errors of the ego intellect can be changed, but the discipline required to achieve that change must already be present within you. Discipline, personal integrity, and strength of character are the preconditions for, and indicators of Spiritual potential. The religious fundamentalists around the world lack that crucial Soul saving quality for reasons we will soon discuss. You have also demonstrated these positive qualities to those who sent you. You appear to have the persistence and discipline that is required for you to stay with the special intellectual and character challenges that I will place before you as I instruct you in the Secrets of the MP.

Q: Secrets? Mystical? Really? Well, I'm sure I can handle any intellectual challenge you put before me. So, what is this stuff about secrets and a "Mystical" Paradigm? I hope that "Mystical" is not synonymous with "religious."

P: It is not. But I expect that your obvious self-confidence will serve you to enable you to vault the hurdles you will face in your run for Spiritual awakening. I depend on it. The "Secrets" of the Mystical Paradigm will become clear as we progress. One of the more serious problems in our society today that shuts out even the possibility of finding solutions to our growing problems, is that too many people, especially young people, want everything fast and easy.

P: But what we are about here is not a "quick fix," not fast food, and the path is not an easy one.

P: Good! But we shall quickly find out. While our path will be most challenging, the rewards will be correspondingly great. The scale of the challenge and the desire to quit is strongest at first because of what I call "the curse of Holistic or systems thinking" to which we are both subject during our initial dialogues.

Q: Let the curse come. It's true, once I understand that there is a payoff, I never give up. A lot of my friends have already fallen by the wayside because they only want life to be a party.

P: One of the early signs of a serious decline in the integrity and character of individuals (and of the society that has nurtured them) is their refusal to recognize the presence of a inconvenient problem even when it is adversely affecting their judgment and quality of life. We find that flaw glaringly manifest in the political right wing's, President George Bush's obsessive and highly destructive mantra of "Stay the Course." We will explore that defect in detail during our Dialogue on Human Information Processing (HIP) competence.

The public is further hampered within our society by choosing to focus on the plentiful diversions and substitutes for intellectual discipline. There is a growing reluctance and inability of many high school and even some college students to take on a serious intellectual challenge. The need for students to take on an intellectual challenges has already been co-opted by large corporations who only want to profit by creating economic slaves. They dictate what books will be made available, ones that the corporate world of business approves, but which deny students intellectual diversity and the capacity to examine their world by critical thinking. Since the end of the Korean War at the outset of the 1950s, there has been a systematic "dumbing down" of America [damning evidence.] This condition is a fatal flaw that guarantees the ruination of a healthy future for any society that cannot, or does not recognize and correct this evil.

Q: You mean the book publisher's priorities for topics or contents helps create this ruination?

P: It's in every social condition in our society, and especially where text books are concerned, not only their contents but how they are written. This evil is especially well developed in Texas and California where all public education books are chosen by a single powerful bureaucracy, one that is politically influenced, you could say owned, by corporations, one in particular, McGraw-Hill. [Ravitch, 2003]

Apart from lost intellectual diversity, the pap that replaces it seldom calls upon a student to endure delayed gratification and persist in the face of discouragement. The lack of needed personal discipline, you will learn, is a defect of one's Spiritual character and potential. Many are too immersed in time and mind wasting activities. Some are too undisciplined to seriously enter into even these introductory dialogues let alone the core of the MP. But you are not one of those sorry examples. Your very presence here is not an accident of chance.

Q: Well it seems pretty chancy to me. I had other plans, frankly, more interesting plans.

P: You are being asked to go against these current norms, where too many folks quickly focus on "other plans" when confronted with an intellectual challenge for which the pay off is not immediately clear, sufficient, and certain. Perhaps you've noticed these days, that any irrational sensationalism sells? Never mind the social relevance or technical credibility of the source.

Movie stars sell politics as easily as products. They are elected to high political office. Politicians appeal to the most debased motives if it might provide votes. I have labeled those with such base motives the groinicks. [definition.] Then there is clear evidence of serious public corruption in business and government. Once the sensationalism of this corruption has been exploited by the equally corrupt media, these defects are no longer examined by the media as a matter of ongoing public concern. This is a standard practice even as these defects are leading us to certain social destruction. The common link,, among most of these corrupted elements, as I will prove to you, is out of control corporate power.

Q; Seems grim. I resist your claim. Besides, what do their problems have to do with me? I certainly didn't come here to get beat upon with doomsday messages.

P: The good news is you have the opportunity now, to become a leader in reversing this sorry trend.

Q: Me? Come on. Get real. There are others who are better qualified, better motivated, you know, the "do gooders." I just want to make my pile and retire. Some of my friends who are as well equipped as I am are already taking on some of your concerns.

P: They will fail. Please follow my arguments. We must first dig in the rocks and dirt, in order to lay the foundation for any beautiful edifice we hope to build.

Collectively, they are actually reflections of the poor quality, nation wide, of our impoverished Spiritual Consciousness. To get your attention, I will now offer you a dose of the array of problems that confront us right now, and show you their evident symptoms. But even these I have labeled problems are only symptoms that indicate that there are still deeper problems that energize what we label the symptoms. All of these conditions are destroying the quality of our vaunted way of life.

P: Notice that I have emphasized that this table only lists a sampling of symptoms, not causes. Can you tell me, what is the root cause that underlies this unhappy list of failings in western society?

Q: You mean, these symptoms ought not be confused with the real problems that create them? Then I would have to guess.

P: The root causes, and I am obviously forced to oversimplify them at the moment, are, in order of increasing importance:

Q: I notice that none of those mention any of the usual problems public officials pretend to address.

P: This is because these core defects prevent or inhibit the emergence of any workable rational solution to any of the problem symptoms noted in the table. [above] First, until there is sufficient Spiritual awakening by a critical mass of our nation's population, there can be no workable or stable solution to any of these problem symptoms.

Q: Wait! You say "spiritual" growth? You have keep using that word, "spiritual." Let me make it clear. If this is a religious thing, forget it!. Count me out! Don't even mention the "R" word. I was force fed and OD'd [overdosed] on religion as a kid. I want no more of it.

P: Be calm. Religion and Spirituality are not the same as I have already noted. I will more fully explain shortly. But that lack of Spiritual Consciousness is why your well intended friends will eventually fail. As a nation we lack an adequate capacity to recognize and accept what is Spiritually relevant and important for survival. Whatever intellectually conceived strategy, tactic, or plan that is not Spiritually valid will fail, let alone if it is counter to Spiritual Truth, Hence, we are being consumed by the destructive values that are producing those symptoms mentioned in the table.

This Spiritual lack or insufficiency is a fatal flaw. It is the flaw that has destroyed every great civilization heretofore.

Q: I have often wondered what is would be like to live in a failing civilization, like the last 200 years of the Roman Empire. Why wasn't the decline recognized for what it was and corrected?

P: You are living in that period now, the decline of western civilization is well underway, especially in the United States of America. Decline is one area where America still excels as a world leader. Just as was Rome while it failed, we too are in the second 200 years of our history.

P: Your first challenge is to find the patience and discipline to understand the defense of that assertion before you can hope to buy into it. You will learn why the Romans were unable to detect or remedy their decline, the same reasons why every other civilization failed. The same reasons that apply now, here, today.

But only after we have awakened and empowered your Spiritual Consciousness (and that of a critical mass of the public) can we examine how you can become an effective instrument to enjoy and promote positive healing. The healing will be applied first for yourself and your personal goals, and then for you to serve as a model and an agent for promoting and managing stable, society wide, healing and change. This potential first requires your deeper understanding of the core concepts of C/consciousness which lie at the heart of the Mystical Paradigm. From that foundation, you can begin to intellectually grasp the dynamics of the abusive use of personal power agendas that have become a dire threat our way of life.

Q: But what does this "consciousness" have to do with anything important? It seems to me its the intellect that counts.

P: If you were to ask any informed person to describe the major problems affecting western civilization today, they would probably create a list very similar to the table I prepared for you. [above] It is that tendency, that dynamic, that bias, that I intend to empower you to overcome.

I intend to empower you with the ability to see past the evidence of your ego driven, intellectually defined and limited reality. I want for you to accept that your intellectual consciousness lives in a limited and limiting reality that has been defined by and for itself. [Defined as a "closed system" in General Systems Theory.] In your Spiritual slumber you cannot relate to the context of the underlying larger Reality, the one that can only be defined and entered through your awareness of Spiritual Truth. You now lack this Spiritual capacity. Therefore, without knowing it, you deny yourself empowerment in every aspect of your life, e.g., success, relationships, personal and political Wisdom, and a deep and abiding peace and confidence. I intend to help you remedy that lack.

Notice I assert that you are the one who will be accountable for success or failure. Not me.

Q: So! A cop-out upfront. Unique! OK then, what about the success and honors that brought me here? Did I imagine them? Since I believe in, and am in fact justifiably proud of my obvious success to date, convince me that I don't know what I think I know, if that is your plan.

P: I will demonstrate that you don't know what you don't know. It is that lack that has the more dangerous implications for you, and for our society.

P: Here is a quick demonstration of the difference between the intellect and C/consciousness, just to get your attention. Take a minute to examine this figure. Tell me what you understand from what you see.

Consciousness Cone symbolic of Spiritual Power in the Mystical Paradigm

Q: Well, there are a bunch of concentric circles colored blue at the top of the cone, and another bunch colored red and yellow at the bottom of the cone. And the upward pointing arrow on the left suggests that the cone expands and gets bigger and bluer as something called "Spiritual Unfoldment" apparently expands. And the yellow arrow at the bottom tells me that as the intellect advances from the center to the edges of the lower circles, the color of the circles changes from red to yellow. So what is the big deal? There is not much there. That silly blue link at the top to what you call the "Suprasystem" is nonsense to me.

P: Thank you for providing the demonstration I wanted. You demonstrate the effects of a brilliant intellect trapped by an inadequate intellectual consciousness. You may "know" what you "know" in the intellectual sense, but you have no ideas of what you don't "K/know" even in the intellectual sense, let alone in the Spiritual or Holistic sense.

Q: Yes. A template is a precut form of a shape that becomes a pattern, a standard. It is used to create or cut other forms or shapes identical to it. Its a reliable guide that guarantees that all parts made from the master template will be correct in all its dimensions as required.

P: Yes, but notice. When you applied your intellectual template of reality to the figure, you came up with nothing. That's because your template was made from your limited and meager intellectually defined and limited reality, not the larger empowering Reality which is defined only within the larger Spiritual Realms of Intelligence. In the absence of your capacity to access the larger Spiritual Intelligence, you came up with nothing important about the figure. Not only were you denied knowing that something there was important, you didn't even know that anything was there.

P: Yes. It happens that this simple figure captures all the essential concepts of the Mystical Paradigm. But the intellectual pattern of "meanings" in your present state of consciousness (your reality) are either absent, corrupted, or impoverished. The True or Real meaning is only accessible in a larger Consciousness, the one linked to the Spiritual Reality, the one that you are denied access to at this time. Therefore this figure is worthless to you as an item of important information. Far worse than that, you could make disastrous decisions in sublime ignorance of your lack of knowing what is Real. LIFE IS RAW--REALITY ALWAYS WINS! This treacherous dynamic, of which you have been wholly ignorant heretofore, now occurs in every aspect of your life. My goals for you are to remedy that destructive lack.

P: The figure has little of importance to communicate to you right now. In short when you don't know what you don't know, you don't miss the critical information you may need to understand the actual Reality that defines the figure's True significance. Just think, you can be elected to high political office anyway.

Therefore, inflamed by your supreme confidence derived from your worldly intellect's success, you talk torrents of words. But in reality, your ego intellect may know what it is talking about, but in the larger Reality, the only one that counts, you don't Know what you're Really talking about. This is because crucial portions of the context only Known from Holistic Truth are denied your intellect. This lack should give you pause for concern. This lack is a killer trap. But we all do this at some level, but it is our ignorance of our doing so that sets the trap. Most of the time, this discrepancy is of little importance, but at times the implications can be ruinous or fatal.

Q: As in a national election? So you imply that people can get elected to political office who don't know what they need to know to be of real use to the electorate.

P: And that the electorate doesn't know what they need to know to vote intelligently for their own good. This was soundly proven in the election of 2004, even though the evidence is in that the Republican victories were the result of carefully contrived targeted election fraud. More about that later. [ref vote-fraud] The Spiritually asleep allowed themselves to become sheep, first led to be shorn, and now they are being led to the slaughter. This fate is a penalty for not having access to the larger Spiritual Reality, ignorance of which sets the trap for worldly failure and distress. This fate is developing now for western democracies as we must all bear the bitter fruit of the 2004 elections.

P: That is what is actually outrageous right now in our society. The root of the trap is the belief by each person that the reality presented by their ego owned intellect is the last and only word on what is Real. This creates a devotion to a physical or material reality grounded in emotional energy that does not in fact exist. Their belief structure is defined by and experienced in their limited biological and intellectual consciousness. Thus all that follows from that erroneous belief can lead to conflict, confusion, and failure.

Just look at our world today. The public is experiencing what is happening in their world, right in their own families, neighborhoods, and institutions. But the True relevance of these events to them is screened, diluted, and enervated as it is filtered for them through their ego owned and managed intellect. It is first filtered by the corporate controlled media even before the data is processed by their egos with its intellectually impoverished definition of reality. They cannot even understand the full implications of the parts that get through.

But even before attempting to come to grips with a significant problem, they turn past the headlines and news stories to get to the sports and entertainment pages, forget the editorial pages. The "why" and "how to cope" behind this disastrous dynamic is part of what our visits will be about. You will learn how the three traps of mind [dialogues 2 - 4] now afflict your precious intellect. You will learn why your intellect without the required level of Spiritual Consciousness is compromised, is made impotent, or outright betrays you.

P: Oh! My! But you are only successful because your limited intellect has been seduced by your sense limited reality. So you have papers to prove your claim? I'm sure you earned and deserve your already considerable degrees, honors and awards. But because these are limited to reflect only the limited and distorted material world of the senses, an example of the blind (intellectual controllers) leading the blind (students and disciples!) they mean nothing compared to what we are going to be about.

P: Hear me out. Your lack of a fully developed C/consciousness is in fact an enemy of your best interests, no matter what kind, or how many of your papers proclaim your "success." They have been created by other egos to serve their egos before they serve your ego. You have been seduced by your Spiritually impoverished intellect to bust your buns to acquire these material symbols, and to believe in them as a validation of something important, as defined by your ego's desire to excel, to dominate. But they will produce only temporary satisfactions, as many "successful" graduates before you have already discovered.

You must learn how to raise your C/consciousness above such limiting delusions, and so must a sufficient number of the public, and soon. This is a precondition before we can hope to save ourselves from the developing disaster I can only suggest during this brief introduction. We will revisit this diagram at the end of our seven major dialogues and you will be amazed at what you can tell me about it then.

Q: But what does not knowing about something intellectually have to do with this idea of consciousness? Just because I may not have studied something doesn't make me unconscious. Look! See how alert I am!

P: Let my try again with a less abstract example. Here. Examine this piece of fabric. It is full of information. Tell me what it communicates to you?

Q: Well, its a piece of cloth that has subtle colors in it, and a vague pattern is there. But there is no printing on it so it can't communicate anything.

P: Wrong! that it communicates nothing. It communicates "nothing" only to you. This is because of your insufficient intellectual consciousness to detect the information embedded in this fabric, e.g., about the structural context of this fabric. Actually this piece of fabric is rich in information, but only to a class of people whose intellectual consciousness has been developed through their immersion in retail marketing and textile science. Their advanced intellectual consciousness in this specialty area gives them an advantage to enable them to interpret this fabric's innate information. The mind that is well developed in textile science will be able to tell you a great deal about this fabric.

P: In fact, this piece of fabric can be described as constructed of nylon slub yarn, double knitted (as opposed to a twill weave) and calendered with an embossed finish. Its aesthetic qualities may be immediately apparent to you in terms of your values. But the intellectually developed textile specialist can also evaluate this fabric in terms of its comfort, serviceability, and durability as compared to thousands of other combinations of fiber, yarn, weave, knit, and finishing options.

Unless you have heavily invested your time in expanding your intellectual consciousness through the study of textiles science and retail marketing, this potential evaluative experience will be "out of consciousness" for you. It will be out of reach. IT CAN'T EXIST IN YOUR BRILLIANT MIND!! As you just conveniently demonstrated, your intellect cannot process it, evaluate it, or make essential decisions that may depend on correct recognition of the Reality of this fabric. Worst of all, as you also demonstrated, your intellect cannot know it does not know about this defect,and this lack inspires your arrogant response.

As you just demonstrated, because the information is absent from your mind, any evaluative protocol or decision cannot include it. Your mind and considerable intellect will be helpless to discuss or decide about the fabric meaningfully. As you just demonstrated, your mind does not, cannot, even recognize its own information impoverishment.

Q: OK, OK, you win, at least for now. But who cares about a cloth. I'm not interested in textiles. Its irrelevant for me.

P: But can you project the principle behind this simple demonstration to grasp what is setting up for you and for the governance of our society? Can you grasp our vulnerability to the enormous evil now fermenting beneath the facade of social stability and numbed daily life? In this limited and trivial example, can you transfer the principle just demonstrated to its implications for an impoverished intellectual consciousness? Can you project it from yourself, to apply it to the entire society? Can you not suspect from this single example your vulnerability in attempting to correctly and fully interpret the events occurring behind the headlines and media sound bites.

The defect is enormously amplified when complex problem symptoms are examined from the context of an impoverished Spiritual Consciousness. You will fully grasp this difference by the time we are finished, and more importantly, you will have a workable understanding what you must actually do to cope with it.

Further, at this point, at this beginning of our dialogues, we are limited to speak only of intellectual consciousness. We cannot yet speak of the profoundly deeper Spiritual Consciousness at the core of our dialogues, the prerequisite for your eventual full intellectual empowerment.

Q: You say that what I don't know can create problems for me? So, I've done quit well so far, thank you. How can such unknown conditions affect my life? That textile example is about as trivial as you could choose for my values and needs.

P: True. Most such unknowns are inconsequential to our lives. But some can have fatal implications for you, your loved ones, and for our society, even for humanity itself. Since Truth is patient, the certain accounting for error (Karma) may not come until much later in your life. Yes, this idea is trivial in the fabric example given. But consider your judgments made in the complex dimensions of human economic, political, and social interaction that affect your well being, your future. How do you plan to vote in the next election?? Why??

How about the choice of a life partner, investments, a career, beyond your vote? Part of the symptoms of social disintegration (for those with eyes to see and ears to hear) are the growing abundance of revolving door marriages, jobs, friendships, and commitments of every kind. As I will develop in detail, corporations are selling out every aspect of the way of life that made our nation great until the end of the 20th century. In the elections of 2004, religious fundamentalists have ignorantly affirmed the power of corporations to continue and expand their betrayal of American Democracy and the quality of life for every American not at the top of the power pyramid which is exclusively owned by corporate America. [a concept to be developed in Dialogue 5]. Many are ruefully discovering that loyalty and trust can neither be bought nor coerced.

P: Now let me provide one final example, one that is relevant at the level of Spiritual Consciousness. Notice that the first domain listed in our problem table is "overpopulation." Tell me, what have you heard recently about that problem, in the media, the news networks, in academic forums, in congress, in other public forums?

P: Wrong! It is not important only in current priorities set by those vested interests trapped in their senate world of material and intellectual consciousness. It is left unattended and allowed to remain unimportant because of fear.

Q: What!? Fear!? That's ridiculous! What can fear have to do with ignoring something. It should be the opposite. I take on a threat when I recognize it, not to run away or ignore it.

P: You response applies only to overt and manageable threat. The most debilitating fear is innate, subliminal, and unrecognized for its literal presence, let along for what actually energizes it. Fear that is out of consciousness cannot be recognized for what it is, let alone managed. But it takes an awakened Spiritual Consciousness to detect, penetrate, and de-energize the immobilizing presence of fears of every kind.

Q: How could fear possibly operate in the matter of overpopulation. After all, there are groups of people already involved with the matter.

P: You mean groups like, "Planned Parenthood," "Zero Population Growth, "Friends of the Earth," and "Negative Population Growth?" Yes, they exist, but in isolation, disconnected even from each other, sometimes even competing, and largely ignored by most of those important public decision makers who should be the first to be concerned. Only by the missing Spiritual influences can these competing groups give up their ego investment in themselves and form a coordinated united front. Does this status qualify for being outrageous?

Q: Yes, but it is your claim that is outrageous. How does fear possibly explain any reason for our public policy makers to ignore overpopulation?

P: Because once you acknowledge the presence of a REAL problem and its impact, then you become obliged to personally, publicly and overtly deal with it. But overpopulation would require dealing directly and completely with enormously controversial matters such as abortion, planned parenthood, corporate regulation, and unchallenged economic growth. Even more controversial, the guts of our predatory capitalist society depend on a value that falsely but forcefully states that "unconditional growth" is essential because it is an unlimited absolute "good."

Under current rules, that myth cannot, dare not, suffer any challenge to the operable rules that dominate the public's intellectual consciousness. Growth must never be opposed. Economic growth, and one's span of corporate power, depends upon relentless population growth. The growth of one's political power depends upon the growth of every domain of political control. The empowerment of those domains of control are also dependent upon unchallenged population growth. Any plan to inhibit, let alone limit or reverse population growth strikes deep into the biological roots of the ego, and releases an incipient, unrecognized for what it is, terror. The terror is activated in the deepest parts of those dependent on chronic unregulated growth for the success of their power and control agendas. Do you have a hint here where OT/MP is going to be taking you?

Q: Well, the matter of overpopulation does strike a responsive cord. You should have seen my drive over here, and finding a place to park every day. The folks who live in the "high rent" Georgetown part of Washington, DC, can pay well over $1,000,000 for a narrow, cramped, vertically built, multi story townhouse, and can't even have visitors unless they can take afford to take a cab. There is no room for their own cars, and certainly not for those who who would visit there.

P: Unregulated chronic growth is required to fuel the engines of predatory capitalism. Growth is required as the fuel that powers that sublime and esoteric pyramid scheme called the stock market, and its game of "musical chairs." Winners in this game not only have the best chairs, but when the music stops (as it always will) you must be positioned to own a chair and control it. Those left without chairs (losers) are dismissed as fools who deserve their losses due to investment "stupidity." Stock brokers laughed at the victim losers of the Enron induced California rolling blackouts in 2003. [evidence] The kind and scale of hypocrisy is only permitted by the depth of our impoverished Spiritual Consciousness.

If you were to go into a national forum, and tell the public that WAR is the earth's solution to a ruinous overpopulated humanity, you would be booed, cursed and run out of town on a rail.

Typically, and most perversely, you note, we blame the victim. Victims can be discarded like an outdated "put" order [in the stock market.] The loser's suffering can be ignored because, "well, they chose to enter the game, so its not my fault they didn't know what they were doing." Unconstrained population growth is the crucial ingredient to keep these predatory capitalist games going. Population pressures dare not be acknowledged as important, let alone seriously confronted by our controlling leaders. This ought be considered as the primal evil of predatory capitalim.

Q: And who are these leaders, our congress? We can demand action if it really gets out of control.

P: No! Corporations are now our actual political leaders, not our elected members of Congress who have been made puppets to corporate control. We already live in a corporocracy. [kor poor 'ok ruh see; definition] Our nation's legislators and their official controllers are Spiritually inert. They, like you until now, have confused Spirituality with religion. Thus they make their token appearances in the appropriate pews on Sunday, maybe even contribute large sums of their excess cash, but without even suspecting the scale, scope and nature of their Spiritual impoverishment, let alone the costs to them and others because of it. In this they feel right with God. For them "God" is simply the CEO of their corporate-political-religious universe.

To even grasp the presence and significance of such a massive humanity wide problem requires that it first be seen from a perspective of awakened Spiritual Consciousness. Only then can adequate steps begin to remedy it by means of an all inclusive Holistic or systems perspective. Only then is there a chance to avoid the fate overpopulation is now preparing for us who lounge serenely in the comfortable chairs of western style imperial capitalism, and its academic ivory towers that gave you birth and train its lackeys.

P: Only because we allow them to define "the world" as irrelevant, except as a feeding trough for their corporate profits. Right now you are, as are most of us, already being subject to gross abuses by the misused power of others in numerous high places. But you don't always Know it.

For example, in early 2004, the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) betrayed its elder clientel by endorsing the Medicare Drug Plan put forward by the Bush administration. In Reality, this plan was basically a sell out to the pharmaceutical industry. Later it came to pass that congress was lied to by the Republican controllers about the actual cost of this plan which turned out not to be $234 billion, but over $500 billion. [evidence] This is a predictable situation when decision makers suffer from an impoverished Spiritual Consciousness.

You may experience the symptoms, but don't relate to the source or importance of the causal agents. Most importantly you cannot even detect, let alone relate to the network of interacting abusers. Though you may reluctantly suspect "something" isn't right, you may find easier to simply accept some symptomatic discomfort because "that's the way it is," and affirm that everyone else is submitting to these symptoms too, or that some kind of "they" are taking care of it.

P: To what end? Regarding Bush and the 2004 election, you have heard proclaimed from some of our most influential observers in Washington during the 2004 campaign that, "Its the economy stupid." A respected liberal advocate published a well received and credible book, "It's Still the Economy, Stupid!" [Begala, 2002] No! Its not the economy.

But even Begala and others cannot jump back far enough to see the whole picture because they are intellectually locked an a limiting economic paradigm. They are trapped because they are brilliant intellectuals, steeped in the status quo, but anemic in the Holistic Spiritual Consciousness required to see what aspects of Reality need to be revealed and dealt with.

Q: So I guess you would argue that this "spiritual" condition is an example of not knowing that they don't know?

P: You've got it! . The source of these negative influences are "out of consciousness" for them and for you. This lack makes you a victim without recourse, even as you indulge your happy possibilities for a future that cannot materialize. Even where you suspect this abuse, you cannot meaningfully evaluate it, let alone address it.

P: Figure out? Never. Its the Spiritually impoverished brilliant intellect that is one tap root of today's damning problems. But of course, you are confident in your ignorance of this lack which empowers your arrogance. That is why you waltz in here, pumped up with "success," starry eyed, and ga ga about your "promising" future. Yet when you enter the world of business, you are involved in far more than your livelihood. You are involved in the Spiritual health and future of humanity itself at the most crucial point in humanity's evolution.

How many of your graduating friends are aware of this lack? Almost none, I assure you. Some of them are already shocked to discover that the jobs they counted are, that are still in this country, are being given to foreign graduates under the H-1B visa program because they will take your job at half the pay and without the fringe benefits you expect. Those few of your peers who do have an intuitive concern, have not a clue what to do about it. Like you, they intellectually plunge forward in hopeful, but abysmal, ignorance.

Q: Yes, so? But your argument agrees that its the intellect that empowers a textile specialist to describe and decide about the fabric you showed me. Answer my question. Why is it my consciousness and not my intellect that is so important as to make the difference in my success or failure in coping with, say, this overpopulation example as well?

P: The intellect can only work within the field of mental consciousness that the person develops. But the Wisdom that directs the intellect only resides in the Spiritual Consciousness. Education today focuses only on expanding the intellectual consciousness.

Q: So then, since I don't understand any of that "spiritual" stuff, why am I here?

P: Let me transfer that idea to further explain why you're here. The real goodness within our society is failing to heal the evils I am about to summarize for you. As a potential leader of tomorrow, you have shown a capacity to fall into the same kinds of error. As I will be revealing to you, if your well intended actions are slave to an undeveloped C/consciousness, you can be diverted, stopped or destroyed even while your brilliant mind remains helpless to even understand what is happening to you. It is helpless now, but you are preserved from overtly experiencing alarm or fear by your blissful ignorance of that lack. I will attempt to address and heal that ignorance, a goal I accept as a challenge.

Q: I must confess that I'm already much less comfortable than when I "waltzed" in here as you say. But I still don't fully understand your point. My mind is very good, thank you. I'm a Mensa member, my grades have been the highest possible. I win almost all the debates I enter. I'm pretty confident that I can handle any challenge I need to confront. So what does this abstraction called "consciousness" have to do with anything important? I'm conscious of being here--so what?

P: Let me try again. If your C/consciousness is not equal to the intellectual challenge (i.e., can access ALL relevant information from the Spiritual Energy Information Fields beyond the physical body,) your mind may be helpless to adequately detect, let alone fully address a complex problem, find a solution, or solve a dilemma. If your ego happens to be threatened by the symptoms of a problem, or by the presence or arguments of others, it may even forcefully mask or deny that there is a problem, or it will redefine the problem for you to label it unimportant. If it does mask or deny the problem source, your intellect will not be able to ask the right questions in order to work out a valid answer.

Worse, it cannot know the nature of this intellectual defect and therefor it cannot and will not respect the limits it imposes on its own capacity to think.

Frankly, you were sent to me, and I agreed to take time with you, because of the very success of which you speak, and the intellectual arrogance you have as a result of that success. But I have chosen to risk dealing with you in spite of that negative aspect because of your other more promising qualities I have already acknowledged: intelligence, innate honesty, strength of character, the capacity to persist in pursuit of a goal, and your fundamental good will. I depend on your positive qualities to prevail.

Q: I don't think reporting the facts, which I always respect, makes me arrogant, but I'll play your game for awhile. So tell me about this consciousness. It seems pretty straight forward, no need to make a big deal of it.

P: But let me warn you why the path we are about to enter is going to be an extra challenge for you. I am confident that you will handle the conceptual difficulty well. But it is the uncertainty of dealing with a new and different Paradigm that will create the greatest problems for you. Your ego will quickly rise to try to protect you (itself) from that threat. You will have to apply all your personal character and discipline to see you through this major challenge, the one that will threaten your ego's present need to control every dimension of your life. Already I sense your impatience. You already want a quick payoff, the quick fix. There is a truly profound payoff, but it is so far out of your C/consciousness now, that it is pointless for me to even suggest it here.

P: In our first major dialogue, we will be developing the concept of C/consciousness in some detail. Let me briefly outline the path we will follow in our coming dialogues. We begin with the first Dialogue on C/consciousness. This will involve your coming to grips with a source of Information that transcends biological life within which your senses and intellect (and therefore your ego) are now limited and entrapped. We must know how to transcend the ego and its intellect to enter the Spiritual plane of Information. within which we are embedded and within which we are ONE. Your at least temporary acceptance of that concept is central to help you understand all that follows in the MP. Here, take this Table of Mystical Succession for you to review between our dialogues. This will challenge you for sure.

P: Ah! The genius of the ego intellect to avoid burdensome context. This table contains only a brief list and summary of selected Mystical ancestors. They are the Builders who have preserved humanity's Sacred legacy of the Mystical Truths across the centuries of humanity's awakening C/consciousness. Most of the public, even those who have heard the names of some of these Builders mentioned in various contexts, are oblivious to their history as practicing Mystics. Some of the Truths contributed by these Spiritually endowed Souls are incorporated into the Mystical Paradigm.

Now, as a society we must quickly come to recognize, accept and depend on the Spiritual Truths that are brought to us by every Spiritual Source. We must quickly learn to immerse ourselves in them in order to survive as a society, and as humanity. I will make references to many of the ideas that have been advanced and practiced by the historical entities named in that table. But don't make a big deal of it for now. Its going to really challenge your materialist grounded intellectual biases, which is one reason I offer it to you now. But from time to time I will refer to aspects of what is represented there, and you can ask me about them as we go along.

After our first dialogue on C/consciousness, we turn to understand the ego controls that work to inhibit the functioning of your Spiritual Consciousness. The ego acts to impose three overlays or filters on your capacity to access the information only accessible through your Spiritual Consciousness. The first of these three ego controlled overlays (Dialogue 2) are your agendas. Agendas are the biological roots that operate through the five senses. They direct your capacity to feed your animal values and needs. They are the instinctive and irrational source of your primal priorities that constantly demand attention. Historically, the early 20th century psychiatrist, Sigmond Freud first labeled, them as the "id." From this physical part of your "self" originates the carnal desires and fears, the so called seven deadly sins [Source] which can be compared with the seven sacred virtues that can only arise from a viable Spiritual Consciousness. [Theosophical Source]

The second ego overlay (Dialogue 3) that inhibits the functioning of your Spiritual Consciousness, is the nature of human communication. Language and symbols, as you acquire them, are infected by the emotions present in your experience which are created by your agendas. You learn to map these sounds and symbols to consistent intellectual and emotional patterns in your experience. Since these patterns are derived from your unique experience (territory) in the world, they are always slightly different for each individual. Any given word has a slightly different literal intellectual and emotional meaning (map) for each of us. Because the map is not the territory [Korzybski, 1933, ] this discrepancy creates an invisible trap which can trigger fear, distrust, conflict, and misunderstanding of enormous implications.

The third ego overlay (Dialogue 4) on your Spiritual Consciousness, is HIP (Human Information Processing) competence. The nature of your experience as you grow to adulthood either enhances or limits your capacity to relate to complexity in healthy and effective ways. Persistent pathological experiences in your early life, (especially chronic and severe punishment or excessive control by parents,) reduces your HIP competence. You, and everyone, has some natural limit to your ability to be comfortable with complexity, change, stress, and uncertainty. When destabilizing conditions of uncertainty are high and active, low HIP competent persons suffer and exhibit significantly more dysfunctional behaviors compared to high HIP competent people. For low HIP persons under stress, impoverished coping behaviors or capitulation are their only alternatives to their lack of effective coping strategies.

Groups and organizations can take on the dominant HIP characteristics of their controlling mangers and influences. Some organizations are flexible and dynamic in responding to the challenging forces they encounter, e.g. Apple Computer at the beginning of the PC era. Others are stable, rigid and r
